This is a blog bringing you Utah's best style & design. Frequent topics include home decor, fashion, interior design, architecture, green concepts, scrapbooking, art, photography, DIY projects, and anything that looks pretty. This blog is owned and maintained by Rachel Hagen. Yup, Utah's most elegant interior designer.
I’m sure a lot of you have heard about Stephanie and Christian Nielson from Arizona. They were in a tragic airplane crash a few weeks ago and struggling with some intense recoveries. Design Mom is putting up a huge silent auction throughout the blogosphere with people auctioning off products and services.
We’d like to get things going here in the Elegance World. My husband’s family knows the Clark (Stephanie’s side) family pretty well. So we thought we’d do as much as possible to help out a little.
I’d like to donate 3 hours (or any room) of my interior design services to whomever is the highest bidder. This would normally be worth $300 but I’ll do it for whatever the highest bidder wants. In order to keep bidders’ info private, I’ll be accepting bids via email (rachelhagen@gmail.com). I’ll post the highest current bid below. Thanks again for all your help. To stay updated on the recovery, be sure to read Nie’s sister’s blog.
When I was in design school we had to design a model chair. My chair’s frame almost looked like this: high back wing chair with tufting. But instead of a more square-like frame, the frame was rounded–hugging one’s body.
I found this chair through MetroSofa. MetroSofa offes a fun, new twist to classic chair and sofa designs like the french louis, empire, queen anne, and victorian sofas. They use old and antique frames and recycle many components used in the production process…thus making their products environmental too! Green and fun. Perfect! These really can add such a unique twist to any room. And as a designer, I’m able to submit my own fabric and make a great piece for a client. Enjoy some of their in stock works.
I think this would be awesome to stick at home for Pixi while we are gone all day. Of course, we would give her something doggy-friendly, not chocolate. But this would make her the happiest dog on the planet. The Chococlock.
We all could use a little bling in our decor. Baccarat crystal is an understatement of bling.
The Baccarat House in Paris is the headquarters to this crystal empire, and was designed by the great Phillipe Starck. The building consists of a crystal boutique, museum, ballroom, and restaurant and has quickly established itself as one of Paris’ main hubs for the elite socialites.
A history of the building From Baccarat’s Website:
Baccarat has relocated to a legendary place situated at 11, place des Etats-Unisin Paris. The former muse of this unique private mansion, Marie-Laure de Noailles (1902-1971) gave magical parties there and metamorphosed this magnificent place of pomp and tradition into a home dedicated to painters, writers and musicians. Time and again she would reorganize the layout and design of the mansion to suit her mood.
While I’m typically not a huge fan of pink rooms, The Cristal Room Baccara is an exception. This was once where the former dining room of Marie-Laure de Noailles was, and Phillipe Stark did an excellent job in keeping the original design while adding a touch of modern and glam. Lovely.
The size of this chair can be understood when looking at the spiral staircase beside it. Unbelievable.
Here are a few images from the series Dreams of Flying by Jan Von Holleben. He uses a lot of creativity in his work and I also really enjoy some of the props.
I think the title of this post pretty much explains it.
These shawls are by Tickled Pink Knits. They have some beautiful hats, scarves, mittens, and shawls. They are, however, pretty pricey. But what fall cover-up isn’t?
Little Houses also has some fun jackets worth taking a look at.
My favorite are these hats made by Little Houses sister site: Hat House. How fun are these?
Ellembee has cute clothing as well (thanks Elizabeth for the lead). Their prices are extremely reasonable. They also have some fun onesies for the little ones.
Ok, I’m back. Last week I was crazy busy with things, leaving my husband to take over the blog. Enough with the weird product designs… it’s time for some new fall looks. When talking with clients they’ve heard of Pottery Barn and Bombay kids, but they didn’t know Restoration Hardware has a children’s line. It has a similar look: clean, simple lines and three-tone color schemes. They have some fun things for this fall, but their entire line only consists of three colors: pink, blue and brown. If you’re into those colors, I’d check them out here.
So I saw these two products and I thought this would be the world’s best gun fight if both guns could be involved. The condiment gun and the water gun. The water gun even has a cool feature in that it uses water bottles.
In one way or another we are all looking for happiness. Some people even say that man’s sole purpose for existence is to hunt down and capture this intangible and elusive treasure. In 2006 researchers at The University of Leicester concluded that Denmark is the happiest country in the world - this was good enough for me. In March 2008 I made the decision to visit happiness, and embarked upon a pilgrimage to find it. My experiences are presented in this book.
Surface View has a huge variety of wallpaper murals. These can be such an eye-catching statement piece for a room. If you don’t have the guts to do an entire wall, then they can also make these graphics into blinds and prints. On their website they have a feature that gives you a rough idea of what the graphics look like in proportion to generic furniture.
Pixi has been lazy for too long on our long hikes through the back country of Utah. I’m gonna start making her carry her own water, food, poop bags and biscuits from now on with this Chuckwagon Dog Pack. Yes, it comes in all sizes.
