Month: March 2010

Only 8.5 weeks to go!!  I’ve been having some serious nesting urges these past couple weeks; unfortunately none of those urges have been to work on the nursery.  However, this week reality hit me and I’ve gotten the fire lit under my bum to get this little boy’s room done!  I have been brainstorming what I want done in the room.  There are a few pieces that we have that are for sure going to be in there…like our reclining wing back we used in our old home office, and a few art pieces.

So here’s my dilemma.  I’ve always had the intentions of getting the yellow, Thomas Paul rug; but the more I think about it, the less comfortable I think it will be.  I’ve never been a fan of flat weave rugs because I think they’re really casual, and would be hard to vacuum.  That never stopped me from wanting this rug for the nursery though…But now I think of playing on the floor with our little guy and can’t help but think it wouldn’t be very comfortable.  This week as I was searching for more options, I came across this navy blue, chain link rug.  Better criteria for what I’m wanting: wool, hand tufted, and a lot more comfortable to roll around and play on.  Here’s the problem:  with the navy blue chain link, and the red chair, I’m thinking it’ll look too nautical…something I’m not necessarily wanting.  However, I can’t seem to get the rug off my mind.  *sigh* What’s a girl to do?  Any suggestions?  Any mom’s have an opinion?  Any design savvy readers have an opinion?  I can’t seem to make up my mind…

If you haven’t been able to tell by my posts lately, I’ve been a bit consumed with our little yard.  With the help of my mother-in-law, I was able get a lot done in our garden.  It amazes how quickly things change from day-to-day.  I’ll wake up and where there was once buds, are beautiful blossoms.  Here are some sure signs of spring found around our little garden:

I  love our outdoor space.  Now that the weather is nice, it has been one of my favorite places to sit and relax.  Here in the city there is so much going on around, but when I go back to our garden it’s like a whole other world.  Can’t wait to play with our little guy back there!!

This month’s Architectural Digest has an article featuring a San Francisco high rise.  Love the simple, neutral, warm colors of this condo.

Violet and George refer to their work as interior tailoring.  I can see why.  Check out their awesome portfolio.

This was supposed to post last week on St. Paddy’s day, but it doesn’t mean I can’t share now!  I love this little dress.  Pair it with a nice cardi and belt, and you’ve got one great outfit.

I’m a huge fan of green and yellow.  It’s such a happy combination.  Add Jonathan Adler in the mix and you can’t go wrong.  Every time I’m in the neighborhood I stop in the Jonathan Adler store and browse at all the fun designs.  I’m pretty sure he is the one that started the whole white-ceramic craze.  I’m not complainin’…

Wisteria

by Rachel Hagen on March 16th, 2010

I got an email from my dad this morning: “Here is my view out my bathroom window while I was shaving this morning.”

I LOVE Wisteria.  Such a beautiful vine.  Ours in our garden is showing sure signs of budding…no blooms yet.  I can’t wait!

I don’t know why, but I just really like this bracelet.  Perhaps because it’s clearly edgy, but has some nice charm.

I always love getting the latest issue of design magazines.  If you haven’t checked out Coastal Living’s March issue, I highly recommend it.  They have some beautiful images.

This is probably my favorite.  Check out that headboard!! I love how extra-wide it is.  It sort of seems like it’s hugging you into bed.  So beautiful.

Love the balancing act of contemporary with traditional.  And, of course, I love the huge oil painting of the family dog.

When you have views like this, there isn’t much need for extravagant interiors.  Notice how simple the drapery and sofa is.  Just a bit of fun with the awesome drift-wood coffee table.

For all you Anthropologie lovers, they have announced that in the Spring of 2011 there will be a Web site, through which brides-to-be can schedule local fittings.  With this picture, it seems like the dresses will be for more casual, garden weddings.  But it’ll be fun to see what their wedding and bridesmaids dresses will look like.

If you haven’t been able to tell our yard is consuming a lot of my time and thoughts.  In a good way.  Yesterday as I was trying to figure out which plants should go where I thought how nice it would be to have a landscape designer come in and just take over.  Now I know why people hire me. :)  I know what I want, I just don’t know how to execute it.  Something well manicured, but still have that over-grown garden feel.  Here is a local landscape designer whose work I have fallen in love with.  Does this get you excited for spring?!

Who knows if this will ever happen again, so I thought it’d be fun to share.  Three out of the four Decker girls are pregnant!!  Elizabeth will be welcoming her little girl Claire into the world this Friday, I’m now seven months pregnant, and Ashley is three months along.  Not only has it been fun to share this journey with my sisters, but so helpful too.  I’ve counted on their advice so many times throughout my pregnancy, and I’m sure many more times as I try and raise our son.  Good luck this weekend Elizabeth, we’ll be praying for you!!
